There are several procedures that need to be performed before you can Install Exchange 2013 on Windows Server 2012 or Windows 2012 R2. This article outlines the software prerequisites for the Windows 2012 Server where you plan on installing Exchange 2013.
Note: If you are installing Exchange 2013 on Windows 2012 R2 you must use Exchange 2013 SP1 (CU4) or later. See this link for more details on Exchange 2013 OS compatibility.
Prerequisites for Mailbox Server role or combined Mailbox and Client Access:
1) Right Click the blue PowerShell icon on the task bar and click ‘Run as Administrator’
2) Paste the following into the PowerShell window and hit enter:
Install-WindowsFeature AS-HTTP-Activation, Desktop-Experience, NET-Framework-45-Features, RPC-over-HTTP-proxy, RSAT-Clustering, RSAT-Clustering-CmdInterface, RSAT-Clustering-Mgmt, RSAT-Clustering-PowerShell, Web-Mgmt-Console, WAS-Process-Model, Web-Asp-Net45, Web-Basic-Auth, Web-Client-Auth, Web-Digest-Auth, Web-Dir-Browsing, Web-Dyn-Compression, Web-Http-Errors, Web-Http-Logging, Web-Http-Redirect, Web-Http-Tracing, Web-ISAPI-Ext, Web-ISAPI-Filter, Web-Lgcy-Mgmt-Console, Web-Metabase, Web-Mgmt-Console, Web-Mgmt-Service, Web-Net-Ext45, Web-Request-Monitor, Web-Server, Web-Stat-Compression, Web-Static-Content, Web-Windows-Auth, Web-WMI, Windows-Identity-Foundation
3) Reboot
Note: New Windows Updates will be available now that the new Windows features have been added, you can install those now if you choose (reboot again after Windows Updates).
4) Download and install the following in the order shown:
Microsoft Unified Communications Managed API 4.0, Core Runtime 64-bit
Microsoft Office 2010 Filter Pack 64 bit
Microsoft Office 2010 Filter Pack SP1 64 bit
Client Access Role only:
1) Right Click the blue PowerShell icon on the task bar and click ‘Run as Administrator’
2) Paste the following into the PowerShell window and hit enter:
